HASTINGS, MN, March 27, 2024 — Last evening at the first annual  Hastings Hockey coaches appreciation banquet, Director of Hockey Jamie Stevens and Travel Commissioner Sean McCabe handed out the following 2023-2024 Coach of the Year awards.

2023-2024 In-House Coach of the Year: Adam Welch

"Adam Welch is an outstanding coach and an excellent role model for our young hockey players. He knows the game and does a terrific job of teaching skills at a level that the kids can understand and enjoy. He loves the game of hockey and tries to share that passion with each kid that steps on the ice. He consistently puts in the extra effort to make sure that every kid has a great experience each time they come to the rink, so you know they will be excited to come back the next time."

2023-2024 Girls Travel Coach of the Year: Ben Percy

"We feel very fortunate that our daughter has had the opportunity to be coached by Ben this season. He brings such a joyful enthusiasm to the rink everyday he shows up. He passes that enthusiasm along to the kids and we have seen our daughter have such a great experience being coached by him. He always emphasizes having fun while keeping focused on the task at hand on the ice. His practices are planned out and efficient. Girls are in continuous movement and that comes from his leadership working with his assistant coaches. As moments move along in the game as things happen that are positive and negative, he always keeps things positive with a smile on his face that the girls feed off of."

2023-2024 Youth Travel Coach of the Year: Jason McCarville

"Jason has been nothing but a positive force teaching a team-first mentality, making team bonding as important as the outcomes of the games themselves. Jason did a fantastic job by creating team unity, respect, responsibility for their actions, and accountability towards each other. Jason cares about each and every one of the players and teaches them to excel at every practice and game and have a blast playing as a team. Jason is a top notch coach. He treats the kids with respect and makes them feel like they matter. He wants them to learn, grow, and do their best, all while making sure fun is important. He understands that they are kids and he shows compassion. He's a coach that makes a difference in lives, and he's greatly appreciated."

Our Coach of the Year awards are presented annually to three hockey coaches whose behavior provides a positive athletic experience allowing players to develop to their greatest potential, have fun, and learn to love the game.

Coaches were nominated by parents, players, officials, and other coaches.

Congratulations to our 2023-2024 Coach of the Year award winners!
